Bernd J. Krämer is Professor Emeritus of FernUniversität in Hagen, Chairman of ServTech, and Vice Chairman of edu-sharing.net, two non-profit research associations he co-founded. He is also a co-founder of the SMN community (smart manufacturing networks). He was guest professor of several renowned universities, incl. Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the International Computer Science Institute affiliated with UC Berkeley, Monash University in Melbourne and Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane.
Krämer has had a career-long interest in software engineering. He has pioneered a modeling approach for concurrent and distributed software systems combining high-level Petri nets and algebraic specifications of abstract data types. With the advent of the world wide web in the early 90s he also focused on software development for educational contexts. A more recent contribution is a networked repository, edu-sharing, supporting the sharing, reuse and adaption of digital learning resources, incl. content, codified know-how, and tools. Lately, he applied his modeling competence to enable flexible manufacturing networks. Krämer studied electrical engineering and computer science and received his diploma in computer science and his doctorate in engineering from Technische Universität Berlin. Several students and collaborators of his became leading figures in business and academia, including seven professors and three senior lecturers.
Bernd Krämer is active in a few non-profit associations and scientific communities, including edu-sharing.net (deputy chairman); ServTech, the Scientific Academy for Service Technology (chairman); the steering committee of the International Conference on Service-Oriented Computing, ICSOC; and the Society for Design & Process Science (SDPS, past president, board member). He is a member of the project group Intelligent Education Networks of the Digital Summit, the core instrument to implement the Federal Government's Digital Agenda. He was project manager of ServTech in the FP7 project IMAGINE and in the HORIZON 2020 project ICP4Life. He is also a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the IARIA Journal on Advances in Life Sciences, and a member of the editorial board of Springer's journal Innovations in Systems and Software Engineering.
Until May 2013 he was a member of the Supervisory Board of <a data-cke-saved-href="http://www.feu.de/imperia/md/content/presse/perspektive/perspektive_die_24.pdf" href="http://www.feu.de/imperia/md/content/presse/perspektive/perspektive_die_24.pdf" rel="noopener" ;"="" target="_blank">FernUniversität in Hagen</a></p> <h2> Open Source Software and Community Building</h2> <ul> <li> <strong>edu-sharing.net</strong>: open-source educational resources repository; the first version was developed between 2004 and 2009 in the <a data-cke-saved-href="http://www.dfg.de/en/index.jsp" href="http://www.dfg.de/en/index.jsp" rel="noopener" target="_blank">DFG</a>-funded project <a data-cke-saved-href="http://www.campuscontent.net/" href="http://www.campuscontent.net/">CampusContent</a>, the continuous evolution afterward was driven by <a data-cke-saved-href="https://edu-sharing.com" href="https://edu-sharing.com" rel="noopener" target="_blank">https://edu-sharing.com</a></li> <li> <strong><a data-cke-saved-href="http://smn.technology/en/home/" href="http://smn.technology/en/home/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Smart data systems and applications</a></strong>: a group of people having common interests in advancing and disseminating methods, modeling formalisms, and technology supporting smart data applications to the benefit of the data owners</li> <li> <a data-cke-saved-href="https://edu-sharing-network.org/?lang=en" href="https://edu-sharing-network.org/?lang=en"><strong>edu-sharing.net</strong></a>: a community of institutions, educators, authors of educational resources, researchers in the area of e-learning, and developers of open source software for education and training</li> <li> <a data-cke-saved-href="http://www.sdpsnet.org" href="http://www.sdpsnet.org" rel="noopener" target="_blank"><strong>Society for Design & Process Science (SDPS)</strong></a>: an international scientific society promoting the development of design and process science across all disciplines of engineering by sponsoring conferences and participation in other professional activities</li> </ul> <p> <a data-cke-saved-href="https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Bernd_Kraemer/" href="https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Bernd_Kraemer/" title="Bernd J.
